Hi, I’m Angel Holmes—founder of The Brighter Side Society, where ambitious women find accountability, community, and systems that make success simple.

High-achieving women entrepreneurs often fall into the trap of over-giving until we burn out completely. It happened during my annual 21-day fast. I thought I had recorded my February podcast episodes, but when I went to edit this week’s show, I realized I had recorded the exact same episode twice. My brain was so fried from constantly giving away my expertise for free that I couldn’t even keep track of my own content.
That’s when it hit me: I was operating from complete depletion.
If you’re a high-achieving woman entrepreneur feeling burnt out from over-giving, this story might sound familiar. You’re brilliant at what you do, you genuinely want to help people, but somewhere along the way, you’ve trained everyone around you to expect your expertise for free.
Many successful women entrepreneurs struggle with this same pattern of depletion.

I just turned 52, and according to the book “Halftime” by Bob Buford, I’m officially in life’s second half. The first half was about figuring out who I am, building my career for 30 years, raising my kids, and proving myself in every possible way.
But the second half? That’s about significance over success.
Here’s what high-achieving women entrepreneurs need to understand: We’re just getting started. When you hit 50+, you’re not winding down—you’re entering your most powerful phase. You have wisdom, experience, and clarity that your 20-something self could never imagine.
Yet society tells us we’re “over the hill.” Meanwhile, social media is flooded with 25-year-old “business coaches” selling courses on topics they’ve never actually navigated.
Where are the seasoned women entrepreneurs who’ve been through real challenges and come out stronger?

In the Chinese calendar, we just entered the Year of the Horse—a time for taking off, moving forward, and leaving behind what no longer serves you.
For high-achieving women entrepreneurs like myself, that means stopping the chronic over-giving that’s been depleting our souls.
According to research from the Harvard Business Review, successful women are more likely to experience burnout from over-giving than their male counterparts.
Here’s the truth about giving everything away for free:
I’ve broken down on this podcast before, sharing how exhausting it is for high-achieving women entrepreneurs to constantly give without receiving fair compensation. Not because I don’t want to help, but because we can’t pour from an empty cup.
1. People expect your expertise for free Friends and family assume you’ll always say yes to unpaid favors, consultations, and “quick questions.”
2. You feel guilty charging what you’re worth as a woman entrepreneur You undervalue your services because you’re afraid people will think you’re “greedy” or “not generous.”
3. Your calendar is full but your bank account isn’t You’re busy helping everyone else build their dreams while yours remain unfunded.
4. You’re constantly exhausted despite business success Despite being “successful,” you feel drained and resentful instead of energized.
5. You’ve trained people to expect freebies from women entrepreneurs Your audience has learned that if they wait long enough, you’ll eventually give away what others charge for.
I’m currently cleaning up my email list, removing people who aren’t engaged with my mission. I’d rather have 100 people who are truly invested than 10,000 who just want free stuff.
Your energy is sacred as a high-achieving woman entrepreneur. Stop spending it on people who don’t value it.
I’ve launched my “5% Substack“—a paid platform where I share the deeper stories I don’t share anywhere else. It’s only $7/month, and the proceeds go to charitable efforts.
People invest differently in content they pay for. When someone has skin in the game, they show up differently.
Through my Brighter Week program, I help high-achieving women entrepreneurs reclaim an entire day of their lives through better organization systems. Because here’s the thing: you have 168 hours every week. How you use them determines everything.

Take the free assessment to discover your organizational style, because we all work differently.
Setting boundaries isn’t selfish for high-achieving women entrepreneurs—it’s essential for sustainable impact.
When I was giving everything away as a woman entrepreneur:
Now that I’m owning my worth as a high-achieving woman entrepreneur:
Whether you’re 35 or 65, it’s never too late for high-achieving women entrepreneurs to stop playing small and start owning their worth.
You don’t have to choose between service and profit. You can serve at the highest level AND be fairly compensated for the incredible value you bring as a woman entrepreneur.
Your expertise is valuable. Your time is precious. Your energy is sacred.
Stop giving it all away and start building the second half of your life with intention.
Because here’s what I know for sure: Dreams aren’t just for sleeping. They’re blueprints for the empire you’re about to build.
