The next big move in my life was leaving Florida and coming back home. Just a few years since graduating from UCF with a BA in Journalism, I had honed into my calling and had great success as a PR professional for a variety of large, successful organizations. But understanding love and thinking I was worthy of receiving it was a big struggle for me and after making a bad decision of getting married right out of college to someone I barely knew and did not get along with, ended up in a quick separation, divorce, and eventual annulment. I struggled in every way, including financially and emotionally and spiraled into a deep depression. The kind where I wanted to end my life and actually tried. My friends and family came in to save me and ultimately brought me back to Charleston–one of the best things I could have done.
It was then when I got even more into my career and had an amazing opportunity to be the PR Manager for the newly opened SC Aquarium. It was here I learned everything I needed to to be good at a lot of things, especially developing partnerships, creating exciting events, handling crisis situations, and doing some pretty amazing things like holding this extremely large reticulated python (who ended up peeing on me in this photo–gross and funny at the same time). The director at the time was the greatest (thank you Chris Andrews) and let me take chances and create some pretty special programs and events. This led me to meet a lot of people including some of the top chefs in Charleston, which will come into play with the next moment I will share more on tomorrow. The one that changed my life and career forever.
