Hello: College was were it was at!

My next turning point was leaving Charleston, SC not knowing anyone and going to Florida for college. I was ready to do something different and while everyone I knew was mostly staying at the state’s schools, I knew I needed something different. Something that would change my life. Leaving my comfort, my friends and family, my everything was the best thing I ever did. I learned I can do anything on my own.

I was tired of flunking out of school, and started to study and apply myself. I wanted to do more than just attend classes so I got super involved and started new organizations as I found a need. I worked hard, I started to pursue my passions, and I thrived.

Another big thing that happened was a mini breakdown I had while registering for classes my sophomore year. It must have been a panic attack but I woke up in a counselor’s office and for the first time shared more to someone about my painful past. The flood gates were open and there was no turning back. This started years of counseling and intense therapy. I read books, attended workshops, and addressed the things that had hurt me so bad. I am not free and clear but so much healing was done during that time that was much needed.

While this transformation happened, I found Jesus. I had always been close in my faith with God but never understood who Jesus was and what he could do with me, for me, and in me. I welcomed him with wide arms and it was the best decision I ever made. I was “saved”, baptized, and have never looked back. Over the years my faith has gone up and down, but that was my choosing and is something that I decided is the cornerstone to my existence. That you God for loving me and the world so much to give us this incredible gift.

So much more cool things happened during this time, including discovering my career focus. I was blessed with some amazing opportunities including interning at World Cup Soccer, and it has made me the professional I am today. I loved my college years and am so grateful I took the leap to move away on my own.
